Boston College economist Juliet Schor discusses her vision for the economy, which she has outlined in the book, Plenitude. Technology makes us more productive, and Americans apply those gains to acquiring more and more possessions—at great cost to the environment. Why not use those efficiency gains to buy more free time?
If we have more leisure but no extra cash to go with it, we will have to learn how to enjoy that time without paying someone to entertain us. Mindfulness shows us how to enjoy free time using our own inner resources and can help the Plenitude vision come into being.
